Part 1 of the Q & A session from the "PechaKucha Nite: Innovative Nikkei Projects" program presented by Discover Nikkei at the Tateuchi Democracy Forum of the Japanese American National Museum on August 31, 2010. The program featured six presentations by individuals who are working on projects that engage younger people in their community through culture and activism. The event was co-sponsored by the Museum and the newly formed Nikkei Youth Network based in Tokyo, Japan. In this clip, Akira Uchimura of the Nikkei Youth Network (NYN) talks about why he likes the PechaKucha format, differences in how different Latin American countries develop their youth, the NYN Summit he is organizing in October 2010, and a new broader definition of Nikkei. Nolan Dyo of the Rising Stars Youth Leadership Program talks about challenges in starting an organization geared towards high school students, and encourages using word of mouth as an effective way of outreaching. *Discover Nikkei is a project that provides opportunities to connect with others and share the Nikkei experience. It is a project of the Japanese American National Museum, made possible with major funding by The Nippon Foundation. The DiscoverNikkei.org website is the primary component of the project.
