重田はその後、日本の海軍提督、企業のビジネスマン、そして時折アジア人の悪役を演じた。最近では、「ムーラン」や「アバター: 伝説の少年アン」などのアニメで声優を務めている。 -- ジェームズ・重田は、ミッドウェー攻撃の先鋒を務める日本航空打撃部隊の司令官、南雲忠一海軍中将を演じている。「ミッドウェー」(1976) には、チャールトン・ヘストン、ヘンリー・フォンダ、グレン・フォード、三船敏郎など大勢の俳優が出演している。
