１９４５年、MSIでの猛勉強

1944年7月、等に召集令状が届いた。赤貧の中で寝る間も惜しんで清掃員の仕事と学業に努め、5週間後には卒業できるはずという時だった。しかし、入隊までの猶予は10日間。「繰り上げ試験で失敗したら在学中の単位も失うぞ。」と反対する学部長に頼んで繰り上げ試験を受けさせてもらい、あわただしくテキサス州の訓練施設に向かった。（卒業試験に受かったことが等の耳に届いたのは日本への駐留を終えてアメリカに帰国したとき）
