Though I did not grow up celebrating Girls’ Day, I wanted to share this special tradition with my daughters. I was very lucky to inherit this family set from my auntie. Some of these dolls came from my obaachan’s set from Japan, and my auntie Sadako Kashiwagi added others over the years. My grandparents stored the original dolls with a family friend while they were in camp; the dolls were one of the few possessions they had intact after the war.
