Taiko Weekend Intensive: Shime & Percussion Boot Camp
Taiko Weekend Intensive (TWI) is a three-day workshop led by members of the SJT Artistic Staff designed to enhance a taiko player's abilities as a performer and member of the taiko community. This TWI will focus on shime, hyotan (shekere), and chappa technique.
Learn:
- challenging shime drills to improve your technique and speed
- basic hyotan and chappa technique
- care and maintenance of your shime and percussion
- shime tying basics
When: June 18 - 20, 2011*
Saturday morning to Monday afternoon
Fee: $350
Includes instruction, ground transportation between the Holiday Inn and SJT studio, and most meals.
Where:
San Jose Taiko Studio
Bring:
Bachi, a water bottle, notebook, an open mind, and an enthusiastic heart. Participants are encouraged to provide their own hyotan and chappa.
Requirements:
Applicants must have at least two years of taiko-playing experience. Preference will be given to applicants who are currently performing members of existing taiko groups.

* You must be present at all activities in order to participate in the weekend. Please do not apply if you think you will miss any portion of this weekend, including arriving late or leaving early for any activity.
