Akira Uchimura of the Nikkei Youth Network presents at the "PechaKucha Nite: Innovative Nikkei Projects" program presented by Discover Nikkei at the Tateuchi Democracy Forum of the Japanese American National Museum on August 31, 2010. The program featured six presentations by individuals who are working on projects that engage younger people in their community through culture and activism. The event was co-sponsored by the Museum and the newly formed Nikkei Youth Network based in Tokyo, Japan. In this clip, Dana Heatherton introduces Akira Uchimura, the Executive Director of the Nikkei Youth Network (NYN). Akira talks about how The Nippon Foundation asked him to develop a way to integrate the new generation of Nikkei. The result is the NYN, his new organization that aims to create a global network of young Nikkei through various activities. *Discover Nikkei is a project that provides opportunities to connect with others and share the Nikkei experience. It is a project of the Japanese American National Museum, made possible with major funding by The Nippon Foundation. The DiscoverNikkei.org website is the primary component of the project.
