Part 3 of 3 from the Q & A portion of the Discover Nikkei program, “Kenjinkai: Past, Present, and Future,” on March 28, 2009 at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles, CA. The Q & A was moderated by Professor Lane Ryo Hirabayashi with panelists Margaret Miyauchi-Leong, Arlene Nakamura, Dean Hara, and Ken Mukai. In part 3, an Okinawan Kenjinkai member asks about identity, in light of discussion about Kenjinkai becoming more inclusive. Mukai and Nakamura respond. An audience member asks about funding and mission statements—what’s the difference between participating in a Kenjinkai vs. another type of cultural group. Mukai and Hara respond.
