What's the significance behind a name? Discover Nikkei is pleased to announce a themed series of articles based on writing projects Nikkei Chronicles #3 -- Nikkei Names: Taro, John, Juan, João? . "Nikkei Names" will explore the meanings, origins, and untold stories behind Nikkei proper names. In conjunction with this series, Discover Nikkei will offer FREE one-time writing workshops in various cities and countries to encourage submissions to Nikkei Names . These workshops are designed to help students of all writing levels develop a point of view, characters, and a narrative voice to tell their stories. Date: Saturday, July 5 / Saturday, August 16, 2014 Time: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm Location: Peruvian Japanese Cultural Center Instructor: Javier García Wong Kit Javier García Wong Kit is a journalist and professor at the University of San Martín de Porres, Lima, Peru. He has edited the digital book of chronicles “Tentaciones Narrativas” and written profiles, opinion articles and reports for media in Spain, Mexico and Peru. In Lima, he is a contributor to the Diario Gestión (Economy and business) and the magazine Kaikan. In 2007 he won second place in the Journalism Award “Historias de Éxito: El Perú no está para Cuentos Chinos”. His stories have been finalists in contests in Peru and Chile, and have been published online. He has participated in literary workshops and taught courses on creative writing and narrative style.
