Living conditions
In Southeast Asian 'hutches' within a logistically built-up area.
Consumed 'hot' meals except on field missions.
Most vivid memory of military experience
Flying in an 'otter', a radial engine propeller plane, over hostile territory to execute our support mission. The multiple landings and take-offs were more hazardous than the enemy small-arms fire directed at us.
Missed most whilst in the military
Daily family interactions.
Most important thing, personally, to come from military experience?
Trust in the Lord!
Duty, honor, country.
Additional information
I returned home from 'in-country' without a scratch and the fiasco of Vietnam. However, leaving four young sons back home with my wife to 'fight' in an undeclared war was regretful. Subsequent to my return home, she became a real casualty of this encounter.
