December 21, 1960 article about Miss Oliver in the Kashu Mainichi newspaper, written by George "Horse" Yoshinaga. He spoke with Soichi Fukui, an honorary Cub and Little Tokyo businessman, and Frank "Match" and Flora Suski Kumamoto (Juniors and Girls' Club, respectively) before writing this editorial. This article motivated former members of the various Oliver Clubs to reorganize and begin pursuing a plan to honor her memory. By fall 1961, they had created the Oliver Outstanding Nikkei Athlete of the Year Award, which would be handed out annually until 2001 to the best Southern California Japanese American high school athlete.
