My early J-Town memories

Little Tokyo Towers (Conservancy Walking Tour: Little Tokyo Towers)

Published: Feb. 8, 2025 Modified: April 11, 2025

When I was about 4 or 5 years old, my paternal grandmother moved from Silver Lake to Little Tokyo Towers. It's a senior housing complex on Third Street. They live independently in small apartments.

I remember visiting her and going up the elevator. I can't recall exactly what floor she was on, but it was a double digit floor number. The elevator went up pretty fast, and came to a pretty abrupt stop, so that I always felt a little queasy by the time the doors opened.

Inside was my Murakami Ba-chan's neat little living room with attached small kitchen. It also had a small bedroom and bathroom. In the living room was a wooden display case with glass sliding doors which held a variety of small wooden kokeshi and other Japanese folk dolls.

My Oba-chan lived here until it became necessary to move her to Keiro.
