Mas Yamashita

As far as I know, Yamashita means bottom or base of a mountain.  When I was about 15 or 16, the other kids decided to call me “Yam” because there was another boy named Mas but because he was a little older, he was “Mas” and I was “Yam” (short for Yamashita).  For many years later, I was still known as “Yam” to them.
