The picture of the Zen rocks comes already installed with the Verizon picture phone and you can put the picture as your wallpaper, screen saver, or even send it to your friends. Nowadays people carry their phones with them everywhere. With the present technology we can take pictures of whatever we want and carry it around with us. Perhaps to some people the picture of the Zen rocks in their phone will give a sense that they are carrying Zen with them. Being able to send the pictures out to other people can suggest the sharing of a “cultural experience.” Why was a picture of Zen rocks already installed into the phone? This may be an illustration of the fascination and exoticization of Japanese culture.
