Video of a traditional Japanese dance performed by Trisha Asao at the Discover Nikkei program, “Kenjinkai: Past, Present, and Future,” held on March 28, 2009 at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles, CA.

In the video clip, she is introduced by the program’s moderator, Lane R. Hirabayashi. The dance she is performing is Kyo no Shiki, which is about the four seasons in Japan.

Trisha Asao has been a student of Japanese classical dance since she was 7 years old, providing her with a strong connection to her Japanese and American Heritage. Under the direction of her sensei Madame Hanayagi Rokufukumi, Trisha has developed an understanding and appreciation of the culture, tradition, and elegance of Buyo.

Trisha is a Yonsei (4th generation Japanese American), whose ancestors were from Hiroshima and Wakayama prefectures. She is an active participant in the Japanese American community and has performed or participated in numerous events, including Nisei Week, Monterey Park Cherry Blossom Festival, San Gabriel Japanese Community & Cultural Center, and Sozenji Buddhist Temple Obon.
