Background Information

Missão e Motivação

Daion Taiko is a Japanese-American, Buddhist organization whose primary goal is to share our cultural and religious heritage with the community. We also strive to preserve this cultural art form by providing taiko training and exposure to the next generation. Our group currently has over 30 members and is composed of both young and old, beginning and advanced performers. We perform in many festivals, public functions, and temple-related events throughout the year.

Estrutura e Filosofia
Describe the ensemble's organizational structure and philosophy, including leadership structure, membership policy, and instructional process.

Our membership policy is simple:
Must be a member of our temple.
Must be at least 10 years old.

Each September, we accept new members and engage them in a 12 week introductory course.

Group History
Describe how, where, and why the ensemble was founded. What was its inspiration?

Rev. Doami and Rev. Takemoto worked w/ Rev. Mas Kodani of Senshin Buddhist Temple and Kinnara to help form a group at OCBC. Rev. Kodani asked Sharon Koga, who had recently moved from Utah and was a member of the Ogden Buddhist Taiko group, to be our sensei.
