EDUCATION & FAMILY COURSE

Sundays, July 12 – August 16
Learn Japanese through a series of fun, interactive course designed just for kids! This summer, we are offering new exploratory sessions for children ages 3-5 and 6-10.
PLEASE NOTE: These courses will be conducted online via Zoom. To participate fully, you will need access to a device with internet, microphone, and camera (such as a laptop, smartphone, or tablet). Further instructions will be provided before the course begins in July. Please note that all times listed are New York time (EDT/UTC-04:00).

Japanese for Kids: 3-5 Year Olds

6 Lessons

This course is for young learners to explore Japanese with a seasonal and theme-based curriculum, where children are immersed in Japanese language through storytelling, songs, games and interactive activities (PDF). Children will gain basic vocabulary and understanding through fun online activities.

Tuition: $100/$75 Japan Society members. Adult accompaniment required. Space is limited to 10 students: advanced registration required.

6 Lessons
Using a theme-based curriculum, children will learn everyday Japanese through a variety of age-appropriate activities, games, songs, and engaging activities. In addition to listening, speaking, basic reading and writing skills are introduced in a fun and supportive environment.

Tuition: $100/$75 Japan Society members. Adult accompaniment recommended. Space is limited to 10 students: advanced registration required.

About the Instructor:
Ms. Michiyo Kigawa began her career as an educator in Japan. Since coming to the U.S. in 1992, Ms. Kigawa has dedicated herself to preserving and conveying Japan’s traditional and folk arts education to youngsters in NYC, teaching at 14th Street Y of the Educational Alliance, Japanese weekend and private schools as well as in after school programs in American schools where the children enjoy learning Japanese language and traditional culture. She has been also an instructor and emcee for Japan Society family annual festivities for young children and families. She is also a haiku poet whose pen name is Popona Tsukino.
