 dquo\;Kapoho: Memoir of a Modern Pompeii&rdquo\; by Frances Kakugawa is a 
 collection of short stories by a Japanese Hawaiian who was just five years
  old at the time\, but whose memory and recall of details is amazing and p
 rovides deep insight into not only the suspicions cast upon the Japanese A
 merican community\, but of the small Hawaiian village she grew up in that 
 was covered in a 1960 eruption. \n\nIt&rsquo\;s the author&rsquo\;s 10th b
 ook (four poetry books between 1970 and 1976 and since 2002 six about chil
 dren\, caregiving\, and Alzheimer&rsquo\;s).\nKakugawa immortalizes many o
 f those she knew in Kapoho (35 minutes south of Hilo on the Big Island) of
  less than a thousand\n
