DESCRIPTION:Two experimental music giants\, <strong>Otomo Yoshihide</strong
 > and <strong>Christian Marclay</strong> \,  perform together in New York 
 for the first time in over a decade.   Marclay\, one of the world's leadin
 g artists and winner of the 54th  Venice Biennale Golden Lion Award\, push
 ed the boundaries of musical  creation when he pioneered the use of the tu
 rntable as a musical  instrument.  Otomo\, electroacoustic improvisation m
 usician and free jazz  guitarist\, earned an international reputation as a
  central figure in  Japan's avant-garde music scene.  Together\, these unc
 onventional  &quot\;turntablists&quot\; will again push to the extreme wha

 . \n \n <strong>Pre-Concert Talk: The Art of Noise</strong> \n November 19
 \, 5 PM\n In an exploration of their artistic careers\, Christian Marclay 
 and Otomo   Yoshihide are joined by musician\, writer and curator Alan Lic
 ht.   Together\, they examine the past\, present and future of non-music m
 usical   movements in Japan\, America and across the globe. Moderator <str
 ong>David Novak</strong> \,  Assistant Professor of Music at the Universit
 y of California at Santa  Barbara\, will begin the discussion with a prese
 ntation on the  experimental music scene in Japan.\n \n <strong>Otomo's In
 stallation: <em>without records</em> </strong> \n Thursday\, November 17-S
 unday\, November 20\n Otomo's computer operated installation--a series of 
 empty turntables set   up to produce a variety of sounds--created as an ho
 mage to Christian   Marclay and exhibited at museums and galleries through
 out Japan in   recent years\, will be on view in Japan Society's public sp
