Re-envisioning Japanese traditional music (hogaku) in a modern context, this program features exciting artists who have taken the contemporary music scene by storm:

TsuguKaji-Koto, a duo formed eight years ago with Tsugumi Yamamoto and Ai Kajigano, which is renowned for exploring new ideas on the koto (zither);

Yutaka Oyama and Masahiro Nitta, leading figures in the tsugaru-shamisen scene who have their roots in Aomori and Hokkaido, epicenters of rich folkloric music;

and the brilliant drum soloists Hide and Miho, who reunite and interpret Japanese percussion traditions in innovative ways.

Pre-concert lecture/demo at 7:00 pm.

Co-presented with Asia Society and the Japan Foundation in association with World Music Institute.

$20 members; students with ID and seniors; $25 nonmembers.
