I took this photo on March 17, 2008 at Anthony C. Beilenson Park (formerly Balboa Park) in Van Nuys, CA. Shown here are my Discover Nikkei co-workers Yoko Nishimura and Bobby Okinaka on the right and Bobby's aunt and her friend on the left.

It was a really nice day for a picnic lunch—the sun was out, but there was a nice breeze to keep it from being too hot. Lunch was a potluck of assorted home-made onigiri (different "flavors" individually wrapped!), store-bought prepared foods from Marukai, and other goodies.

Beyond the picnic table on the right, you can see some of the many sakura (Japanese cherry blossom) trees that were in bloom that day. It was near the end of the blooming period, but there were still several trees filled with the delicate pink flowers.
