Dramatic changes in the dekasegi industry: The truth behind the large-scale return to Brazil

Dekasegi workers fell victim to the financial crisis of 2008. It is not only in Japan that the environment surrounding them is changing drastically. Many of them who lost their jobs in Japan are returning to Brazil in droves. As a result, the situation in Brazil is also changing rapidly. This column focuses on the current situation. The article is reprinted from Nikkei Shimbun ( www.nikkeyshimbun.com.br ), a Japanese language newspaper published in Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo State, Brazil, and aimed at Japanese people and expatriates.

Born in Tokyo, he has been living in São Paulo, Brazil since July 2007. He graduated from the Department of English and American Literature at Aoyama Gakuin University. He currently works as a reporter for the Nikkei Shimbun, a Japanese language newspaper in São Paulo. He covers events in the Japanese community, as well as the current situation of dekasegi families who returned to Japan due to the economic crisis.
