In this retrospective, you can catch up with the works of Hayao Miyazaki, the great Japanese animator behind Spirited Away and other flights of fancy.

  • Fri 2, 4:30, 7, 9:30pm | Porco Rosso, 1992, 93mins | A decorated WWI pilot finds his head transofmed into that of a pig is this truly bizarre toon.
  • Sat 2, 4:30pm | Kiki's Delivery Service, 1989, 103mins | This charming comedy, about a teenager who leaves home to try her luck as a witch, was Japan's highest-grossing film of 1989.
  • Sat 7, 9:30pm | Howl's Moving Castle, 2004, 119mins | After falsely hinting at premature retirement like a rock star (which he essencially is, in Japan) following 2001's Spirited Away, Miyazaki got right back to work with this fantasy—about a boy, a girl, and a giant floating edifice.
  • Sun 2, 4:30, 7, 9:30pm | Spirited Away, 2001, 124mins | Miyazki's animated feature plunks a frightened, confused preadolescent girl, Chihiro, into a phantasmagoric nether world. Crammed to bursting with indelibly grotesque characters, the film has few rivals as a work of visual imagination.
