Selections from Shadows of Minidoka is a striking and stunning visual exploration of the incarceration experience by internationally renowned artist Roger Shimomura. Work comes from his recent exhibition and publication, "Shadows of Minidoka," his fourth major series on his experience as a child and reflection back as an adult on his time at Minidoka.

On display through October 7, 2012, the paintings will also be for sale with a portion of the proceeds generously donated to Oregon Nikkei Endowment from the artist.

"It is the culmination of years of perusing images culled from books, magazines, government publications, personal recollections and the internet. The result of this search has been the visual distillation of this experience to tar papered barracks, barbed wire, and desolate landscapes, inhabited by muted occupants as they stand in line waiting, cleaning, eating, contemplating and quietly conversing," states Mr. Shimomura. At the core, this work shows lives interrupted, stalled and desolate yet still moving forward.

Programs and events throughout the exhibit will include summer First Thursdays in June, July and August, a lecture and visit by the artist in July along with youth activities throughout the summer. For more information, go to www.oregonnikkei.org.
