O dia 3 de março é comemorado anualmente no Japão e nas comunidades nikkeis em todo o mundo como o Hinamatsuri (Dia das Meninas). Traduzido literalmente como o “Festival de Bonecas”, o evento é comemorado por famílias com filhas pequenas e inclui a exibição de hina-ningyo – bonecas especiais para a ocasião. Além disso, existem comidas e pratos especiais associados ao Hinamatsuri, como o hishimochi , chirashi-zushi e hina-arare .
