Internment Camp - 1943, Communal kitchen, Tashme, B.C.

The existing large barn on the ranch was divided into rooms for families. This building was known as the “Apartments”. Unlike the wood shacks, this building had electricity and flush toilets which were a luxury for the evacuees in the camp. There was an adjacent building which was the large communal kitchen where the women prepared the meals to be eaten in the rooms.
