POW Camp - 1942, Angler, Ontario

766 male Nikkeis,(471 Niseis and 295 Isseis) aged 17 to 60 were held captive in a remote POW camp at Angler in northern Ontario. They were composed of the “Nisei Mass Evacuation Group”, a group who vowed they would evacuate only with the family intact, “security risks”, “trouble Makers”, die hard Issei convinced of Japan’s victory and young Niseis who followed their father, older brother or friends. Since they were confined as prisoners of war, they were guarded by the Army and had to follow the daily muster and roll call.

None of the more than 700 interned men were guilty of disloyalty and none were deported.
