A study on political systems by Pew Research Center revealed that “there are reasons for calm as well as concern whe n it comes to democracy’s future.” The findings indicate that the Amer ican public is largely divided over democracy: 46% are satisfied with the way democracy is functioning\, and 51% trust the government to act in the country’s best interests. Does our democracy remain strong\, or is there cause for concern? In this program\, experts examine the current state of democracy in the United States\, Asia\, and Europe\, and ways to strength en government amid dwindling public trust. \n \n Speakers: </stron g>\nSheri Berman\, Professor of Political Science\, Barnard College\, Columbia Uni versity\n Bruce Stokes\, Director\, Global Economic Attitudes\, Pew Research Cente r\n Keesha Gaskins-Nathan\, Program Director\, Democratic Practice-United States\, Rockefeller Brothers Fund \n\nAgenda:\n6:00-6:30 PM Registration\n<sp an style="font-family: Lucida Sans Unicode\;">6:30-8:00 PM Discusssi on and Q&amp\;A\n8:00-8:30 PM Reception\n\n Admission:\n Non-members: $20\n Japan Society Corporate Membe rs: Free\, up to designated number of tickets\; additional tickets $15\n J apan Society Individual Members at Patron Circle level and above: $15\n Ac ademic and government: $15 \n \n Seating is available on a first come\, fi rst served basis. \n \n Prepayment must be made with a credit card.
