Youth Leadership Summit
November 5 & 6
Chicago, IL
The JACL's National Youth/Student Council (NY/SC) invites college students and young professionals to join them for a Youth Leadership Summit in Chicago on November 5 and 6. The Youth Leadership Summit program of the NY/SC aims to build a network of JACL youth leaders who understand local, regional and national Asian Pacific American issues, and have the skills necessary to become effective advocates for their community.
The Chicago Summit will focus on connecting youth in the Midwest District to each other and toJACL on a national level. Workshops will discuss the nature of Japanese American identity as the foundation for community activism. Participants will examine the nature of privilege and oppression, and the legacy of the Japanese American community as a way to connect with the larger APA community. Participants will also go through a "JACL 101" in order to become more comfortable with the various levlels of the JACL and the ways in which they can get involved.
The summit is free to all attendees, thanks to the support of State Farm and Southwest Airlines.
