Fighting the enemy
Lead and direct the men under my command to effectively engage and defeat the enemy.
European and Mediterranean Theater of Operation; N.E. France and Northern Italy (Gothic Line)
Bronze Star - voluntered to assist medic in the recovery of wounded soldiers who were shot and exposed to sniper fire.
During and under combat conditions living conditions were reduced to the bare essentials. Meals, luxury of bathing and entertainment were the furthest from my mind. Surviving during the next minute, hour and day was the only thing that was on our mind.
The futility of warfare, the inhuman acts by men are often basically lost or masked in human nature in recalling of some of the humorous, happy moments while in uniform.
I mostly missed my family and friends, home cooked food and wearing civilian clothing. I also missed freedom.
The bond that is formed among soldiers during actual combat is so close and long lasting.
Attended Syracuse University and University of Tulsa.
Retired as a petroleum geologist with the State of California.
