In 1995, when CJAHS brought the traveling exhibit Strength and Diversity: Japanese American Women 1885-1990 to Chicago, we developed an accompanying set of practical lesson plans for grades 3-10. The Chicago logo illustrating the book's cover depicts a Japanese American woman silhouetted against the city skyline.
Designed and stitched by Japanese American women from our community, the Chicago is Home Quilt tells the story of how Japanese Americans made Chicago their home after WW II.
This brief history of the Chicago Nisei Athletic Association (CNAA) supplements our traveling exhibit, Japanese American Team Spirit: Chicago Nisei Athletic Association. Through photos, objects, and text, we explore how sports contributed to community formation and reflected intergenerational relationships from the mid-1940s to the early 1990s.
