1950年8月8日にチリで生まれたロベルト・ヒロセは、地元の学校で教育を受けましたが、家族やチリ在住の日本人、さらにはチリを訪れた日本人からも日本の影響を受けました。チリ大学で工学の学位を取得して卒業した後、日本の文部省から奨学金を受けました。日系パンアメリカン協会、チリ日本人慈善協会、日系企業バルパライソ支部などで積極的に活動し、日本人や日系社会とのつながりを保っています。
