Health and Sports Day, usually held on October 10 in Japan, is the anniversary of the opening ceremony of the 1964 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo. With the Summer Olympics coming to Tokyo again in 2020, we thought we would bring this event closer to San Jose’s Japantown with our own version of a Health, Sports, and Culture Day at the Japanese American Museum of San Jose (JAMsj).

JAMsj will also be open with bilingual (English/Japanese) docents on hand for guided tours. To open this event, there will be an obento lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. If a lunch is desired, it must be preordered. From 12 noon to 2:00 p.m., there will be performances and relay races:

  • Marimo kai koto group performance
  • Fujitsu’s physical exercise video game demonstration
  • Judo demonstration
  • Kendama playtime
  • Relay races for the children

    • Hula Hoop Challenge
    • Egg on the Spoon
    • Tamaire
    • Mansui Relay Race (small/large cups)
    • Tug of War
    • Pankui/Powder Donuts
    • Balloon Toss

Please join us for an afternoon of cultural demonstrations bringing health, sports, and culture together.
