Film: Gu Gu the Cat - Gou Gou Datte Neko de Aru (with English Subtitles)

Director Inudo Isshin sings praise for pets again after All About My Dog with his new film Gu Gu The Cat based on the autobiographic short story manga collection by Oshima Yumiko. This time, pride of place goes to the feline in this sensitive slice-of-life look at the relationship between a woman and her cat. Koizumi Kyoko (Yajikita Dochu Teresuko) plays manga artist Asako, who is thrown into depression when her cat of 13 years passes away. Assistant Naomi is extremely worried about Asako, as she is so upset that she can't even continue working. One day, Asako wanders into a pet shot and buys an American shorthair kitten which she names Gu Gu. Gu Gu The Cat co-stars popular actors Ueno Juri (Nodame Cantabile) and Kase Ryo (I Just Didn't Do It).

Take part in the after film discussion of this film's relevance to Japanese culture.
NO Admission fee. Popcorn and snacks will be served. Please RSVP (312) 943-7801 so we'll know how many chairs to setup.
