Shinzen Japanese Garden
The Shinzen Japanese Garden is located within Fresno's Woodward Region Park. The entrance to the park is located on Audubon Drive, just off of Friant Road

Fresno, California
United States

This ancient celebration begins with sounds of the Taiko Drums to call and awaken ancestors’ spirits and welcome them on their annual return to the world of the living.  Following the opening ceremonies, the calling of names and the launching of the floating candle lanterns, known as TORO NAGASHI will begin.  This will signify the spirits’ departure and lead them safely back to the spirit world.  Watching the innumerable tiny “boat,” each bearing a shimmering light floating into the dark distance, provides a time of recollection in a sacred place to bid ancestors farewell.
Hours of Operation :
From May 1 through September 30, 2001, the Shinzen Garden is open each weekday, Monday through Friday, 5:00 P.M. to dusk. Saturday, Sunday and Holidays the Garden is open from 10:00 A.M. to dusk. October 1 through April 30 open Saturday, Sunday and Holidays 10:00 A.M. to dusk.
