Santos\, the city that first receive d Japanese immigrants in Brazil\, is the port where ships docked bringing those people with "slanted eyes" that Brazil had never seen before. It was in the city of Santos that the first group of Japanese\, coming to the co ffee plantations of São Paulo\, arrived and were admired by passersby and reporters who rushed there to see the faces of the first Japanese in Braz il\, on June 18\, 1908. It was also there that on the 80th anniversary of Japanese immigration to Brazil\, in 1988\, a monument was erected in honor of the pioneers of Japanese immigration\, a symbol of the trajectory of i mmigrants in Brazil. In honor of the brave immigrants\, the city organizes a series of activities related to Japanese culture\, including the exhibi tions: <em>Panorama of Japanese Immigration</em> organized by the Historic al Museum of Japanese Immigration in Brazil\, <em>Sumo\, another look</em> \, and <em>"Ikenobo" Floral Art</em> by the Iemoto Ikenobo Association.
