Topaz Main Gate

Topaz was located in the Sevier Desert in Utah. Temperatures ranged from 106 degrees in the Summer to 30 below in the winter, rainfall averaged 8 inches. On September 17th the first evacuees arrived, they slept on mattresses stuffed with straw.
