Ida has portrayed ea ch of his subjects in a revealing moment adapted from their personal stori es\, while rooting them in the context of the historical narrative that sh aped them. Each portrait chronicles a human drama\, in a subtle but litera l way. Literal\, in that the artist has rendered the contours\, shapes and shading of the figures with transcribed text rather than line.\n\n
“con.Text” is a series of 12 life-sized po rtraits that relate historical events and documents to the lives of the su bjects who are in some way connected to current times. The portraits exami ne a broad range of subjects including racism\, civil rights\, human right s\, and man’s inhumanity toward man.\n\n
The intent of this series is to portray individuals as the embodiment o f strength and pride standing defiantly in the face of oppression and fear by a power against them. With the current social and political environmen t and the recent acts that repeat past abuse and injustice\, Bryan is atte mpting to view historic events in the context of the contemporary climate. \n\n
Bryan Ida’s website:\n https://b ryanida.com/ \n\n
con.Text artist st atement \n https://bryanida.com/about/ \n\n
Bryan Ida’s Biography :\n https://bryanida.com /about/ \n\n
Detailed information on con.Text : \n https://bryanida.com/con- text-ink-portraits-on-panel/ \n\n
To purchase the “con.text” book:\n https://www.blurb.com/b/9617045-con-text\n DTSTAMP:20240418T220844Z SUMMARY:“con.Text” by Bryan Ida URL:/en/events/2021/08/01/context-by-bryan-ida/ END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
