Anime Wong: Fictions of Performances, written by Karen Tei Yamashita and edited by Stephen Hong Sohn, is a collection of performance texts dating back as early as 1990s to 2013. Yamashita, known for her numerous highly acclaimed novels including Tropic of Orange, Brazil-Maru, and I Hotel, traces her creative roots in theater.
This book gathers her artistic, humorous, and insightful stage materials that tackle identity, gender, and techno-orientalism, where Anna May Wong is transformed to Anime Wong, superstar of CyberAsia.
Karen Tei Yamashita will read and perform excerpts from her book.
