“Honorable Journey” Opens One Week Theatrical Run on August 17 

Documentary short tells the story of an extraordinary generation—
 Japanese-Americans who came of age during World War II

Washington, D.C. – “Honorable Journey” will begin a one week theatrical run in Encino, California on Friday, August 17 at Laemmle's Town Center 5 with a daily show at 1p.m.  The documentary short film, produced by AARP, charts the 70-year struggle of Japanese-Americans who came of age during World War II.

“The Japanese-Americans of the Greatest Generation have so much to teach us about service, sacrifice and dedication to American ideals,” said director Stephen Menick. “I have been honored to meet some of the last of these heroic Americans.”

Narrated by George Takei, “Honorable Journey” features conflicts of loyalty to tradition, family and country, played out against the backdrop of world war. Eyewitnesses and descendants recount a lifelong journey from barbed wire, battlefields and jail cells to vindication and the highest honors in the land. As World War Two veteran Senator Daniel Inouye (HI) says in the film, “That’s one thing about democracy. You must be patient.” 

“Honorable Journey” also features former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta; longtime veterans advocate Terry Shima; veteran and cell biologist Susumu Ito and his grandson, Justin Ito-Adler; lawyer Dale Minami, who represented civil rights advocate Fred Korematsu; and Lane Hirabayashi, nephew of civil rights advocate Gordon Hirabayashi.
