Landscaping America: Occidental College Student Research

Occidental College, Los Angeles

Students from Occidental College, a liberal arts college in Los Angeles, CA in the United States, created this collection. In the spring of 2007, the Asian Studies seminar "Japanophilia" collaborated with the Japanese American National Museum and Oxy's Center for Community Based Learning to research Japanese style gardens in and around Los Angeles. This research was informed by, and in anticipation of, the JANM exhibition "Landscaping America: Beyond the Japanese Garden."

The seminar, which focuses on the history and culture of the obsession with Japan, was taught by Professor Morgan Pitelka of the Asian Studies Department.
