Peru: From the Photograph Book of Overseas Affairs (1931)

Published: March 30, 2007 Modified: Feb. 26, 2025

This is a collection of photos of immigrants to Peru, excerpted from "Photographic Album of Overseas Affairs in Commemoration of the Enthronement of the Emperor" (Kanmon High School of Dressmaking, 1931). Peru is the second most populated country in Latin America after Brazil. Immigration to Peru began earlier than Brazil and Mexico, and I would like to introduce the lives of early immigrants through these photos. By clicking on a photo, you will jump to the original photo page, where you can see the transcript of the explanatory text attached to each photo. This "Photographic Album of Overseas Affairs" was published in 1931 to commemorate the enthronement of Emperor Showa. The editor, Fukutsuchi Samura, came up with the idea of publishing a photo book while staying in Mexico, and collected the photos. In addition, a Mexico edition has already been made for this photo book, and in the future, photos of Peru and the United States will also be included.
