History of the Morioka family's immigration to Chile

Published: March 16, 2007 Modified: April 11, 2025

Before immigrating to Chile, Katsuyoshi Morioka worked in Korea in a Japanese canning factory. In 1928, they were living in Hiroshima in Kannon Machi, when they decided to emigrate to Chile, since at that time Japan was experiencing a period of economic recession. Katsuyoshi chose Chile as his destination country, because a friend and high school classmate had already settled in that country, in a town called La Cruz.
