Morioka family 1928

At the end of 1928, while in Shikoku, Japan, Katsuyoshi Morioka decided to emigrate, together with his wife Michio and his children Katsuo (7) and Toshiko (3), to Chile. He had knowledge of this country through his friend, high school classmate, Suegoro Sone. On November 20, 1928, they set sail on the Rakuyo Maru bound for La Cruz, Chile, where they arrived through the port of Valparaiso, at the beginning of 1929. According to what the family remembers, the crossing lasted more than forty days. The Visa was granted by the Chilean Consul in Kobe, Carlos Lavandero. -- In Japan, Morioka Family, Katsuyoshi, Micho, Katsuo and Toshiko, year 1928. This photo was taken as a souvenir before the Moriokas left Japan for Chile. It was brought to Chile by Katsuyoshi and preserved until today by Toshiko Morioka, who provided it to the Documentation Center.
