ひまわり会の歴史チリでは1960年代に二世男性の配偶者として来チリした女性が増え、長期滞在者の夫人達と活発に活動していたが、その後長期滞在者の夫人達が独立した婦人会「コピウエ会」を組織したため、永住者の夫人の会としての活動は途絶えた。 1980年代に幼児の日本語教育のためにも日本女性が集まり、1986年に日本語教室設置のために永住者の婦人会が発足された。
