Early Japanese Immigrants - A Historical Look at the Pre-Kasato-Maru Period

Published: July 8, 2007 Modified: April 11, 2025

Before the arrival of the ship Kasato-Maru on June 18, 1908, bringing the first wave of Japanese immigrants hired to work on the coffee plantations in São Paulo, there were already several Japanese people working in Brazil. Among them were the names of Wasaburo Otake, Casas Fujisaki and Saburo Kumabe. This was the theme of the special exhibition, organized by the Historical Museum of Japanese Immigration in Brazil, inaugurated on June 11, 2007, in commemoration of the 99th anniversary of Japanese immigration. The images in this collection are part of the collection of the Historical Museum of Japanese Immigration in Brazil. The use of these images without written permission from the Historical Museum of Japanese Immigration in Brazil is prohibited.
