Argentina is my home (Spanish)

(Spanish) In Argentina, how can I say this, I did not, perhaps, do great things. [I did] nothing [in fact]. I had the pleasure of living. I suffered somewhat but I enjoyed life. The most important thing is that I am happy being in Argentina and here I will die. That’s it. Perhaps I didn’t become a millionaire, but I enjoyed [life] so much and I know many people. And that, I think, is a good thing. I love Argentina a lot, the Argentine people, Argentines themselves, in spite of the many problems…many things, at the very least Argentines, including the Nikkei, are all good things for me.

Interviewee Bio

Takagi Kazuomi was born in Japan on March 27, 1925, in the Mie province. He arrived in Argentina as a tourist and never returned to Japan. By chance he started out in journalism, a profession that provided employment for more than fifty years on radio and in the graphic arts. Today, at eighty-one years old, he continues to fervently work as a journalist for the newspaper of the Japanese collectivity, La Plata Hochi (Japanese Section), including acting stints in various forms of publicity. He passed away on November 10, 2014 at age 89. (January 2021)
