 seum&rsquo\;s first public space. Originally built in 1925 as the Los Ange
 les Nishi Hongwanji Buddhist Temple\, it was used as a house of worship\, 
 social hall\, and rental office space. During WWII\, it stored the belongi
 ngs of Japanese Americans sent to concentration camps\, and later a hostel
