Shuji was born on Etajima, an island in the Seto Inland Sea in the western part of Hiroshima Prefecture, and has never left the island. He has always felt responsible for his father's sudden death in the family farm, and has spent his days living at home with his mother, feeling depressed.

The Japanese Film Festival of Los Angeles (JFFLA) was established to introduce Japanese culture and young talent through Japanese films and to further deepen international cultural exchange. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the festival, and it will once again feature a hybrid of in-theater and online screenings. The films on display are an intriguing selection that reflects both contemporary Japanese culture and traditional Japanese spirit. We will also be screening films dealing with Japanese history and high-quality documentaries. Approximately 60 feature-length and short films are scheduled to be screened. New releases, heartwarming invited works, and submitted works from around the world will be screened online and at venues in LA and OC.
