RSVP HERE: tinyurl.com/oaanuchaashii

All ages welcome! No experience necessary! (Limited number of sanshin available for folks who do not have access to one)

  • 4 p.m. – POTLUCK @ OAA Center's Yamauchi Bldg.

  • 4:30 p.m. Pacific – ONLINE via Zoom

Nuchaashii is a safe and informal communal space where we welcome everyone to share and learn from each other! This month, we invite folks to PERFORM A SONG (all levels welcome!) or SHARE A STORY about a family heirloom, performance experience, etc. (Both in person and online participation is encouraged)

We will also have a special presentation featuring international uta-sanshin performers! (Pre-recorded)

To close, we'll have a group performance with anybody who'd like to participate! (Song kunkunshii will be emailed before the 22nd)

ON-SITE PARKING:
Located behind the buildings off 165th Place; we will be in the Yamauchi Building, which is the facility nearest the parking lot gate

ABOUT THE OAA:
The Okinawa Association of America, Inc. (OAA) is an award-winning 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is dedicated to preserving, promoting, and perpetuating Okinawan culture in the greater Los Angeles area. Formed by first generation immigrants (issei) over a century ago, the OAA has grown into a multi-generational organization that hosts numerous events throughout the year including cultural presentations, performances, and senior-focused activities. The OAA's decades of service have garnered accolades including the 2025 Community Organization Recognition Award (Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Southern California), 2023 California Nonprofit of the Year (nominated by Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi, 66th District) and 2019 Frances K. Hashimoto Community Service Award (Nisei Week Foundation). OAA leaders have also been recognized by the Okinawa Prefectural Government as Overseas Goodwill Ambassadors and Next Generation Representatives. ABOUT NUCHAASHII:
Last Saturdays of the month (unless otherwise noted) • What started as a local potluck has expanded into a hybrid gathering accessible by community members near and far. Each month we practice self-introductions in Uchinaaguchi (one of the native Ryūkyūan languages) and every other month we'll explore Okinawan culture or identity through informal presentations/sharing.
