Obon Festival - Kahului Hongwanji

Community Event
In Person
Kahului Hongwanji Buddhist Temple
291 S Puunene Ave Hawaii, United States of America

Date: July 20, 2018 – July 21, 2018

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Come to Kahului Hongwanji to celebrate its 2018 obon festival! Join the fun with family and friends as you experience Japanese culture, religion, and food with a local Hawaiian twist. Obon is a traditional festival held to honor the ancestors and remember our loved ones who have passed!

In March of 1953, a parcel of land was purchased to serve a growing population within the Kahului “Dream City” area for the purpose of expanding the facilities of the Kahului Hongwanji Mission. The temple structures were relocated to the purchased parcel in December of 1953. After 47 years as an affiliate of Wailuku Hongwanji Mission, Kahului Hongwanji Mission attained independent status authorized by Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii headquarters in Honolulu.

Friday, 7/20 - 7:30 p.m.; service: 6:00 p.m.

Saturday, 7/21 - 7:30 p.m.; service: 6:00 p.m.
