Japanese Diaspora Initiative: Uncovering Forgotten Voices in the Digital Age
Kaoru Ueda, PhD, Hoover Institution, Stanford University
As part of the Japanese Diaspora Initiative to promote the study of Japanese American history and preserve its related important resources, the Hoover Institution has begun digitally collecting overseas Japanese newspapers. In this talk Ueda introduces its digital capabilities to unpacking Japanese American history.

The Proudest of All Flowers: Chrysanthemum Cultivation, Japanese American Community & Suburban Boosterism in Redwood City, California, 1906-1942
Paul Nauert, PhD Student, Stanford University
Nauert will share highlights from his recent research on the relationship between Japanese American working class families, chrysanthemum cultivation, and suburbanization in the Redwood City area during the early twentieth century. This research draws from oral histories as well as visual and print sources.

Citizen Internees: A Second Look at Race & Citizenship in Japanese American Internment Camps
Linda Ivey, PhD, and Kevin W. Kaatz, PhD, California State University, East Bay, Hayward
Through a new collection of primary documents about Japanese internment during World War II, this book enables a broader understanding of the injustice experienced by displaced people within the United States in the 20th century.
